SUICIDE -WHY?

SUICIDE _ WHY   ?

Wonder why there is high incidence of SUICIDE in Tamil Nadu...

Is it because  _


1.'Depression' is endemic in the area;

2. A boring, kill-joy culture, life-style;

3. Glorifying Frenzy

   I think its more either
   1. Curiosity
   2. To take revenge on someone- Let them suffer without me
   3.Escapist mentality- thinking that they will escape the suffering.
   
   But Hinduism clearly says that until we realize the true Self/Atman, our suffering will not go away. We still retain the sukshma body even if we don't have the physical body. Mind is the cause and it dies only on realization of the Atman. (That's what I believe based on what I've heard and read on Hinduism)

   It is depression in 90% of the cases. Depression can be due to several reasons. Failure in academic, social
   life; lifelong crippling illnesses,
   cancer, Tb etc; addiction to the
   bottle, drugs; losses in gambling to very high stakes. loneliness & also a let down by close relatives & friends.
   Unfortunately, there is no permanent cure for depression; pep talk , drugs
   are temperory solutions; the biggest inhibiting factor, for one depressed to take away his life is the pain he will experience in dying; once he has overcome that, its all over for him !

ILLUSION AND REALITY

Somebody asked me whether Ramayana had actually taken place.

I thought either way it does not matter.

If you read Ramayana and it had an impact on you, then it is real.

If you read it and it had no impact on you, then it is not real.

Can we say that Experiences are as real as Sensory Objects?

In a similar vein we may say that dreams are also real since we experience many emotions during the time of dreaming.

Even if they disappear on waking up we may consider it is the reality of the past.

Ramayana is real as can be seen in its spread throughout our & neighbouring countries. but its a great pity that it was not left in its original form ! 

Somebody in between , probably decided to make it more attractive & popular
so as to spread our religion. Thus certain events which were impractical 
& unlikely were added !

DOES THE MEDIA REPRESENT PUBLIC OPINION?

Recently there was a lot of opposition in Tamil Nadu for the SANSKRIT WEEK, according to our Media.

In my limited experience I have not come across 'Brahmin Hatred' or  'Opposition to Sanskrit' among the common people living here.

I have a feeling that those who are opposed to Brahmin and Sanskrit are given the quantum of space in Media which is not in proportion to the following that they have.

I dont know where you were, but this phenomenon was very common in the 60s; There were instances of sacred threads being cut while travelling in public transport. because major portion of society felt one small section was holding all the aces. things are much improved now , with a developed world this small portion has felt that its services are more appreciated in other parts of the world so it has taken wings & flown there; very soon , there wont be any, in our country.

சுகப்பிரம்ம ரிஷிக்கு ஏன் அப்பெயர் வந்தது என்று ஒரு குறிப்பு புராணத்தில்

இருப்பதாகப் படித்தேன்.

வேதம் என்ற மரத்தில் அதனுடைய சாரமாகப் பழுத்தது ‘பாகவதம்’.  கிளி

கொத்திய பழம் என்பது கனியின் இனிப்பைக் கூட்டுவது என சொல்வதுண்டு.

அதைப்போலவே, சுகர் பாகவதத்தை எடுத்துரைக்கும்போது அதன் சுவை

கூடுகிறது.

அதனாலேயே அவருக்கு சுகர் என்ற பெயர் வந்ததாம்.

அவர் மிகவும் அழகிய தோற்றம் உடையவர் நெறும் அந்தப் புராணத்தில்

சொல்லப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.

நான் சுகப்பிரம்மம் குறித்து முதலில் எழுதியிருப்பதற்கான திருத்தமாக இதை

 எழுதுகிறேன்.

எப்படியிருந்தாலும்,  கிளி மூஞ்சியுடன் அவரை வரைவது சரியல்ல என்ற

எனது அபிப்பிராயம் சரிதான்.

என்னவென்று தெரியவில்லையே .... MY CONFUSION

புத்த மதத்தில் பல்வேறு பிரிவுகள் இருப்பது குழப்பமாக இருக்கிறது.

ஒரு மதம் என்பது Supernatural விஷயங்கள், அதாவது, கடவுள், 
ஆத்மா, மறுபிறவி போன்ற விஷயங்களைப் பற்றிப் பேசவில்லை 
என்றால் அது ஒரு மதம் என்று சொல்ல முடியுமா? 

அதை ஒரு வாழ்க்கை முறையாகத்தானே புரிந்துகொள்ள முடிகிறது?
அல்லது, ஒரு Philosophical concept என்று தான் சொல்லவேண்டும்.

எனக்கு Thich Nhat Hanh சொன்ன சில கருத்துகள் பிடித்திருக்கிறது.

முக்கியமாக, Mindfulness, Compassion and Inter-Connectivity.  

Inter-Connectivity என்பதை இன்று Quantum Theoryயும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்வதாக ஒரு கருத்து இருக்கிறது.

 எதையும் முழுமையாக ஏற்கவும் முடியவில்லை, தள்ளவும் முடியவில்லை.

MY CONFUSION

The fact that BUDDHISM has several sects proves 

confusing.

If a religion doesn’t speak about supernatural elements

 such as God, Soul, Life after Death and the like, can it be

 called a religion? It can be understood only as a way of

 Life, isn’t it so?

Or, we can call it a Philosophical Concept.

I like some of the thoughts advocated by THICH NHAT

 HANH.

Particularly, MINDFULNESS, COMPASSION and INTER-

CONNECTIVITY.

Today it is said that the Concept of Inter-Connectivity is 

part of QUANTUM THEORY.

I’m not able to accept it wholly; nor reject it entirely.

  

பெண் திமிங்கலம் சொல்லும் சேதி - FEMALE WHALE

திமிங்கலங்களைப் பற்றிய ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சியை தொலைக்காட்சியில் பார்த் தேன். 

ஒருவகையான பெண் திமிங்கலம் குட்டி போட்டு பாலூட்டி வளர்த்து வருகிறது. வாழ்வாதாரத்தைத் தேடி வேறு ஒரு இடத்திற்குப் போகவேண் டிய கட்டாயம் ஏற்படுகிறது.

வேறு இடத்தில் ஆபத்து இருக்கும் என்று தெரிந்த திமிங்கலம் ஜாக்கிரதை யாகக் குட்டியுடன் நீந்திப்போகிறது.

ஆனாலும் ‘கில்லர் வேல்ஸ்’ என்ற வகை திமிங்கலங்கள் அதைப் பார்த்து விடுகின்றன. உடனே அதைச் சுற்றி வளைத்து குட்டியைத் தனிமைப் படுத்தி தாயின் கண்ணெதிரிலேயே குட்டியைத் தின்கின்றன.

முதல்முறையாக நான் ’பெண் ஜென்மம் பரிதாபத்திற்குரியது தானோ’ 

 என்று நினைத்தேன்.

FEMALE WHALE 

I happened to view a TV Programme on Whales. 

The female whale gives birth to a calf and nourishes

it with its milk and rears it with all the care and affection

 in  the world.

A time comes when the mother whale is forced to migrate

 in search of prey.

 Aware of the fact that there would be impending danger

 en route the mother whale swims with its calf, with

 utmost caution.

Still, the killer whales spot them. Surrounding the calf 

they isolate it from its mother and feed on it right in front

 of the mother’s eyes.

For the first time I felt that the life of a female is pitiable.
